Distribution of Sanitary Pads in Kampala Slums Started

At the start of July 2020, the organization resumed the distribution of items which included sanitary pads, soap, sugar to girls/young women and young mothers in slum areas of Kampala. This activity shall go on till the end of July and the next area is Kamuli in Namisambya Village where the organization center is located. In Kamuli, a total number of 300 girls shall be reached and 300 packets of re-usable packets are needed. Re-usable pads are washed and are reused for a period of one year.

Racheal Ayo, the Programs Manager (Youth For Charity Missions International) says Menstruation periods in the pandemic did not stop; “many of the girls and young women in the vulnerable communities we serve in Uganda are suffering with no provision and protection against the menstruation periods prompting many of them to engage into sexual behaviors to obtain these hygiene products”.

She continues to say that It is unfortunate that no one is interested in giving a hand, and as per our country status on leadership, their priority is how 2021 general elections will be held. “This is why we have setup a Covid19 response and support menstrual health and hygiene campaign targeting to raise 300 pieces of re-usable sanitary pads and 200 bars of soap to be donated to 300 vulnerable girls and young women of Namisambya parish in Kamuli District immediately after the distribution in Kampala slums as a covid19 emergency response intervention”.

She encourages everyone to ensure that African women and girls have access to menstrual products, pads, soap and safe water.
