Women Support Projects
In our struggle to empower women thrive through gender biased societies, we discovered that another challenge besides gender inequalities against girls/women, most women were faced with poverty and yet most of the times they are the ones left to cater for the welfare of their families even if their husbands still exist. Factors contributing to the vice would partly be because they lacked formal and informal qualification to be employed, others lacked necessary skills to venture into small businesses, others married had been abandoned by their husbands to cater for all house needs and other women had lost husbands.
Beyond our advocacy programs, education sponsorships, hygiene supplies to girls/women, we also embarked on organizing small groups of 5-10 young girls and women in vulnerable communities and offered them skills training in hair dressing, tailoring and Bakery / confectionery.
This has resulted in for example; women venturing into making half cakes, pan cakes, chapati, samosas and other pastries as small businesses that they sell at schools and in town centers.
One of the groups in Namisambya (comprising of seven women) after our training and with the start-up capital from our organization (funds received from New Life Church of Jesus Christ), the group teamed up to start making scone bread that they supply to small shops in their neighborhood to-date.
The bakery business is earning them a living to-date and they are using it to change lives. They are also training other women in bakery skills and recently, they have started up a Women Savings and Credit Cooperative Society (Sacco) of fifteen women who meet and save small money every Sunday – will you put something into their bag?. These women are now able to support their families, live happy and sustainable lives.
Keep praying for us!
